The snowkiting is one of the latest winter sports which has come to St. Moritz, where it has been practised since 1991. The lakes of St. Moritz and Silvaplana freeze when winter comes, and turn into a perfect setting for snowkiting, without trees, rocks and obstacles which can hinder with the activity. The Cresta Run was inaugurated during 1884-1885 winter season and since then it is very popular among the visitors of St. Moritz. Covering the Cresta Run is fascinating, an adventure with a small hint of danger which will make your adrenaline level rise instantly. It is obvious: anyone who tries it once will want to repeat it again and again. The Cresta Run is covered lying in a skeleton (simple sled), reaching speeds from 90 to 140 km / h. You will be transferred to the jump point, very close to the Corviglia station, at 2486 m. height. There’s a crunching sound in the air around the pines and larches dusted with snow: it comes from the braking manoeuvres that the tobogganists make when a curve gets too tight. The best thing to do then is to lift up the front of the toboggan, dig the ends of the runners into the snow, and take another running jump onto the sledge, so that it can pick up enough speed for the long straights.
